I love getting to preserve my own family's memories in the best way I know how and I love getting to help other families do the same.
I absolutely love what I do. I still have to pinch myself, knowing I get paid to do this job. Every single time someone hires me to come into their home or to meet in a park and document this stage in their family's journey, I feel truly honored because I know firsthand just how important the result is. It's not something I take lightly.
This is what has inspired me to pick up my camera again after so many years. And now that I have, I've fallen in love with photography all over again. It's the best way I know to slow down time and hold on to my memories. In my personal work, I make sure to capture the little details of their childhood: the messes, the artwork, the favorite toys and beloved stuffies. But most of all, I make sure I capture them. Them as they are today, because they are growing up so fast and tomorrow I will surely wake up to different kids.
But it has all been passing way too fast. I know that someday, I won't find rocks in my pockets, Cheerios in my bed, or toy dinosaurs by my keyboard. My home will be cleaner and my sleep will be uninterrupted; I will read more books and watch more movies. But I also know that I will absolutely miss the chaos of these days. I will miss their childhood.
Now, getting to watch them grow up has become the greatest joy in my life, second to none.
Then, my world
changed in an
instant when
my oldest
was born.
And then again
a few years later
when my youngest
arrived. They became, along with my husband, the most important people in my life.
